What does it cost to join United Baristas Marketplace? 
Nothing. Signing up to United Baristas is free. 

Do I need to be a qualified barista to sign up to United Baristas Marketplace?
United Baristas Marketplace is open to all people who wish to buy, sell or rent coffee equipment - regardless of skill level or qualification. 

Are there any requirements to join United Baristas Marketplace? 
You’ll need either an email or Facebook account to join United Baristas and a bank account or a verified PayPal account to receive funds when selling or renting an item.

What does it cost to buy an item on United Baristas Marketplace? 
There are no additional charges for you to buy an item on United Baristas Marketplace. Purchase the item and proceed to make arrangements with the seller for it to be shipped or collected. 

What does it cost to sell an item on United Baristas Marketplace?
Listing an item is currently free. We have introduced the escrow service at just 2% of the transactions value (minimum £1). When a buyer purchases an item, the funds are securely held by our payment processor Stripe until the seller marks the transaction as complete, or 30 days pass. This is significantly cheaper, and better, than receiving payments via PayPal, which will be depreciated after a transition period.

What does it cost to rent an item on United Baristas Marketplace?
There are no additional charges for you to rent an item on United Baristas Marketplace. Book the item and proceed to make arrangements with the lessor for it to be shipped or collected. Please note deposits explained in the listing may apply to your booking, these are payable directly to the seller.

What does it cost to hire out an item on United Baristas Marketplace?

How do I pay for an item?
We strongly recommend that you do not pay the buyer outside of the platform (via bank transfer, for example) before receiving and checking the item. Good buyer should be happy to sign up to our payment services. Once they have done so, you buy or rent an item using a debit or credit card. We recommend opting for Stripe as the payment processor so that you benefit from the United Baristas escrow service. Your funds will be released to the seller once you have market the transaction as competed.  

How do I get paid when I sell or rent an item?
When an item you listed is purchased or rented, you’ll received a confirmation email. Stripe payments are made to your bank account within three working days of the seller marking the transaction as completed.

VAT and other taxes
Items should be listed inclusive of any VAT. Escrow fees are inclusive of VAT, in any, and a tax invoice is available on request by contacting us.

List your item in the format: <Brand> <Model> <Variation> <Item> <year, if known>

Price
List your item’s selling or rental price, inclusive of VAT (or other local taxes), in Pounds Stirling (£).

When selling 
If you are VAT registered, we recommend that you communicate this in the listing’s description as it is relevant for prospective VAT registered buyers.

When buying
If you are purchasing an item and are VAT registered do not assume that the seller is also VAT registered. If you are uncertain, contact the seller for clarification.

Description 
Offer an accurate description of the item, including its model, variations, any modifications, and qualifications or specific information about its condition
List shipping costs for all shipping options that are available, including the first part of your postcode if the item can be collected

Brand
Select the item’s brand.
NB: If you item’s brand is not available, either list it as ‘Unknown / Not Listed’, or contact us if you think the brand should be added to the available options. 

Condition
Accurately list the item’s condition using the following options:

New: Brand New
Unused, in original unopened packaging 
New: Shop Spoiled 
Unused, in opened, or missing, packaging
As New: Restored or Repaired
Used, but repaired and restored to a new standard
Used: Ex-demo or Display
Used, but for selling or demonstration purposes
Used: Good Working Condition
Used items
Used: Requires Servicing
Used and working, but requires upkeep that’s part of a normal maintenance regime to return the item to good working condition
Damaged / Unknown
Used and not working, or its current condition is unknown

Please be as specific as possible about what, if any, servicing or repair an item requires or damage an item has suffered. If the item’s condition crosses categories, list for the lesser condition.

Examples:
  • A grinder that’s been used at home and requires new burrs but is otherwise in good working order should be listed in ‘Used: Required Servicing’
  • An ex-demonstration espresso machine with a damaged panel, but in otherwise good condition, should be listed as ‘Used: Requires Repair’ 
  • A brand new, but dusty item, that’s been used for display should be listed as ‘New: Shop Spoiled’
  • A item that has been used at home, has some signs of wear, but is not damaged, should be listed as ‘Used’
  • An item that hasn’t been used or tested recently should be listed as ‘Unknown’. 

Communication of shipping and collections options
Enable people in other locations to buy your item by offering shipping options and costs. List timeframes and costs for the shipping options you can offer:
  • Global shipping
  • EU shipping
  • UK shipping
  • Collection neighbourhood and any time restrictions

If renting an item, include information on any deposits or return shipping costs payable as part of the rental.

Expiration Date
To keep the listings current, an expiry date is required. Expiry dates can be set a maximum of six month ahead of the listing or editing date.
NB: You are able to re-list an expired item by editing the the listing.

Location
Identify the current location of the item for sale using your neighbourhood or use the first part of your postcode.

Image
Upload your own photographs of the item.
NB: Using images of the item from other sources may be a breach of copyright and may may inaccurately depict the image.

The first image is shown on the listings page - use your clearer image showing the entire item. Supplementary images should show specific features, modifications, wear or damage mentioned in the listing.

United Baristas offers similar protection functions to selling, buying and renting on other marketplaces.

Both parties to a transaction are able to provide feedback. The coffee community is well-connected, so provide the best possible service to ensure satisfactory transactions and to maintain your reputation. 

Legal
By listing at item you are making an offer, and by buying or renting an item you are entering into a binding contract. Failure to pay one the one hand or to supply the goods in the described condition on the other commonly constitutes a breach of your legal responsibilities. Precise obligations and rights depend a variety of factors including the product, its condition and whether you are acting in your own person or on behalf of a business. United Baristas Escrow Service & PayPal
When a buyer purchases an item using the United Baristas Marketplace escrow service arranges for funds to be held by our payment processor Stripe until the the seller marks the transaction as complete or 30 days have passed. PayPal, also, provides sellers and buyers some protections and avenues of recourse for items that are misrepresented or not delivered. Specific information is available on the PayPal website.
